Temporal Brow Lift

Sometimes plastic surgeons are likened to Gods because they can change the shape, the size and the appearance of a person’s body. Any part of the body can be sculpted to perfection by an experienced plastic surgeon. Present day people are extremely conscious of their looks and appearance and the slightest dissatisfaction may prompt them to go in for body contouring. Choosing a surgeon to do the job is the most important task. His experience and the patient’s comfort level with him are very important. If these two criteria are present, plastic surgery becomes a job well done.

The face of a person is the most visible part and if a part of the face begins to age or sag or wrinkle, then the person would do anything possible to improve it. When the forehead creases, or there are crow’s feet beside the eyes, or there is an overall ageing effect around the eyes or the forehead, then a brow lift is the answer to the problem. The chosen surgeon and the patient should have a detailed discussion on what is needed, what is necessary and how to go about it.

There are several kinds of brow lifts and one of them is the temporal brow lift, which is also called the lateral brow lift. It is a procedure where small incisions are made near the temples and scalp. Most of these incisions are later hidden in the scalp or in the hairline so that no scars are visible. The temporal brow lift is a smaller procedure requiring lesser incisions and lesser dissections. The disadvantages are that this type of surgery may not be long lasting, lasting only 3-4 years, or only the outer portion of the brow is elevated and the part close to the nose is not elevated. There may even be a small scar on the side of the forehead. This method is used for older patients with deep forehead wrinkles and who wish to avoid extensive invasion. It is even less invasive than an endoscopic brow lift. It can be used along with blepharoplasty or other procedures.

The advantages of a temporal brow lift are minimal scalp numbing, minimal swelling, minimal risk of hair loss, small incisions and hence small sutures and quicker recovery, small scars and reduced bleeding. It is the best procedure for restoring brow position and clearing the upper lid with the least amount of risks and drawbacks. The temporal brow lift achieves a controlled, precise elevation of the outer brow.

Temporal brow lift procedure is for those patients who find wrinkles at the corners of the eye (crow’s feet) as lifting the temporal brow will flatten the wrinkles as the skin and muscle are placed on stretch during the elevation.
